Backpack Adventure Kits

Backpack Adventure Kits are back! After some time away to align with COVID mitigation recommendations, our Backpack Adventure Kits are back on the shelves ready to go home with the next avid adventurer! Ranging in themes from Gemstones to Trees and Leaves, to Bugs and Butterflies, and more, there's something for every outdoor adventurer to enhance their exploration and increase their knowledge of the natural world.

Each kit contains books to help with identification and exploration, along with tools like shovels, nets, specimen containers and magnifying glasses to support hands on learning. A helpful picture of all the included tools, along with a written list of each item, can be found in the front pocket of each backpack to help keep track of all the pieces in these bags. Contained in a small, clear backpack, these kits are designed to be easy to carry on your next hike and to wipe down afterwards!

All eight kits can be found on top of the Junior Nonfiction Shelves by the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten windows in the Children's Area of the Library. Caregivers are encouraged to help younger patrons find a kit together so that they both can be aware of the materials they are responsible for in each pack.

These kits were originally assembled and donated to the Library by the Solon Women's Club. The General Federation of Women's Clubs, of which the Solon Women's Club is a member, is one of the world's largest and oldest nonpartisan, nondenominational, women's volunteer service organizations. The Solon Chapter helped found the first public library in Solon! We are so lucky to continue to have their support of our Library from forward-thinking activity packs like our Backpack Adventure Kits, to sponsorship of our March 2021 Digital Storytimes, to donations for our Summer Reading Program, the Solon Women's Club values and supports libraries in our community.

What is a Backpack Adventure Kit you don't see on our shelves that you think we should add?
