Manga and Anime at the Library

Fairy Tail by Hiro Mashima

Fairy Tail is a manga series about Lucy, a celestial wizard, who wants to join Fairy Tail, a club for the most powerful wizards. Lucy’s quest to join Fairy Tail leads her to fall for a charming magician and end up in the hands of pirates! Lucy must rely on Natsu, a boy she met during her travels. Natsu isn’t like a typical hero. He travels with his cat, Happy, gets motion sickness, and seems like a bumbling goof. In a world full of wizards and magic, Lucy learns that appearances can be deceiving!

Combining a story with amazing artistry really brings it all to life. The Fairy Tail adventures continue through over 60 volumes!

Now, if you’ve never dived into the world of manga, you might be asking, "What is manga?

“Manga are comics or graphic novels originating from Japan. Most manga conform to a style developed in Japan in the late 19th century, and the form has a long prehistory in earlier Japanese art. The term manga is used in Japan to refer to both comics and cartooning.” - Wikipedia

To dive into the world of Japanese cartooning, check out our Anime Collection. My Neighbor Totoro is a family favorite that tells the story of a professor’s two young daughters, Satsuki and Mei, and their interactions with friendly wood spirits in post-war rural Japan.

If you're looking for more action-packed anime, My Hero Academia might be more your speed! In addition to the show, you can read the manga series, too.

You can also visit Kanopy to stream even more anime, like The Case of Hana and Alice

“When Alice transfers to a new middle school, she hears an urban legend about a student who disappeared the previous year and is suspected to have been killed by his fellow students. Even worse, Alice discovers that she lives next door to his former house, a supposedly haunted home now occupied by a reclusive classmate named Hana. Hana and Alice decide to investigate this "murder case" together, but soon find their lack of detective skills may be an obstacle, in this unusual and charming film from famed writer-director Shunji Iwai, in which a shaggy-dog mystery tale ultimately gives way to a wonderfully nuanced story of young female friendship, and the fantasies and thrills of everyday teenage life.” –Kanopy summary
