The Mysterious Benedict Society is a fun read! This book is the first in a series, geared toward upper elementary students, but it had me--an adult--engaged through until the very end! It has a rich vocabulary and teases your mind with some fun riddles and mysteries. It starts out with a newspaper ad asking kids, "Are you a gifted child looking for special opportunities?" Dozens of children write in to reply and are put through tests and riddles, but only four succeed. The chosen four are then sent on to complete a secret mission that only the most intelligent children could complete. But first they must to go undercover at the Learning Institute for the Very Enlightened, where the only rule is that they have no rules. This book is a mix of adventure and mystery, which it adds to the suspense. The plots are mysterious, unpredictable and gripping – full of action and problem solving. You can’t help but have a go at the riddles yourself.
