Crossover’s Music and Dance

It’s a Teen kinda book

But for everyone

YOU know

Basketball meets music

Rhythm and flow

Rhythm and flow

Not only that

No, more for the WIN

WIN for the TEAM!

Ya, that’s it

Family, girl friend

The Crossover by Kwame Alexander is a fun, emotion-filled story in verse. Almost thirteen year olds, Josh Bell and his twin brother Jordan love basketball just like their father. It’s not easy for them to get along. There are the bets, the girl friends, family issues, Dad’s health and his championship ring, and of course… the competition. The rhymes Josh feels are powerful expressions of his feelings. This is a book for everyone to enjoy, a quick read, but you won’t want to miss a single word. It’s even better if you read it aloud.

If you’re wondering about the crossover basketball moves that the book gets its title from, also called ankle breakers, check them out:

Music and dance are also at work in the background of this story. The coach, Dad, and the team all get along better with the rhythm flowing. Try putting these tunes on while you read The Crossover:

Filthy McNasty by Horace Silver

Beethoven's 5th Symphony

Then, if you need a stretch from reading, go for the Cha Cha Slide:

I think I’ll read Crossover again… and try the Cha Cha Slide.

Have you found music that gets you moving with the rhythm? What works for you?
