Enter a Tree in the Habitat for Humanity Tree Decorating Contest
The 7th Annual Solon Community Habitat for Humanity Tree Decoration Contest is already under way. Entry sheets and rules will be available at the library until November 12. Trees must be at the library (turned in with the $5 fee) no later than November 15.
After the trees are all in the library, voting for the Humanity Award and a silent auction will take place. The silent auction ends at noon on Saturday, December 10.
Even if you don't decorate a tree, make sure to stop in the library after November 15 to look at all of the wonderfully decorated trees!

People Are Checking Out More Than Ever!
In preparing the numbers for our annual report, we were astounded at how much our circulation has increased this past year.
We keep track of statistics on a July to June basis, and from July 2010 to June 2011 our circulation numbers jumped up 22%! Checkouts went up in all of our different categories with big jumps in the DVDs and children's books.
So thank you to everyone who has helped increase our circulation!

A Big Thank You to the Friends of the Library!
The Friends of the Library has recently purchased several very awesome items for the library.
They bought 21 colorful (and comfortable) bean bag chairs for use in our children's and teen programs. The chairs have already been put to a lot of use during the YourSpace afterschool programs and the Early Out Movies. We hope to get a lot of use out of them in the years to come.
The Friends also bought us a DVD cleaning machine so that we can keep our collection in the best shape possible. Make sure you let the person at the desk know if there is an issue with any DVDs (skipping, not playing, weird audio problems) so that we can clean it before it goes back on the shelf.
Thanks again to the Friends of the Library for the wonderful gifts!

Third Grade Bingo Books Are On Display
Every year the third grade classes at Lakeview Elementary complete reading bingo sheets from October to March. The students have to read specific things in order to fill in their squares each month and get a "bingo."
To make things easier for the kids (and the parents) we try to display books that fit the themes for each month in the library. You can find the third grade bingo books displayed on top of the junior nonfiction shelves. Some of the books cannot be checked out and must be read here in the library (these books will be marked with a bright sticker), but most of them are available for checkout.
If you have a third grader this year, make sure to peruse that area of the library to find what you need. And as always, if you have any questions, feel free to ask at the desk.
