Summer Reading Ends July 23

The last day to turn in reading logs for the children's Summer Reading Program at the library is Saturday, July 23. Make sure to count all your minutes and get your sheets turned in so you can pick up your prizes. This is also the last opportunity to enter to win the grand prizes, since we will draw the winners on Monday morning.

Mother-Daughter Tea is This Week

Don't forget to sign up for the Mother-Daughter Tea that is hosted by the Old Capitol Doll Club of Iowa. The tea will take place on Wednesday, July 20 at 1:30 pm and will include treats, beverages, door prizes, and goodie bags. The Old Capitol Doll Club will present a program entitled "Grandma's Trunk" that shows what dolls are made of. Registration is limited to girls in grades 1-4.

Special Guest for Storytime

On Tuesday, July 19 at 10:30 am, we will have a special guest for storytime. Kristin Simon from the ECICOG will be here to read the book Dig by Andrea Zimmerman and David Clemesha. She will tell us all about how landfills work and how they are built. Kristin's program is sponsored by the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center.

Library Hours for Beef Days

The library will be closing at 2:00 pm on Friday, July 15 so people can join in the Solon Beef Days festivities. We will also be closed all day on Saturday, July 16 as well. The library will be back to normal hours on Monday, July 18.

Summer Reading Events for July 11-July 15

Tuesday, July 12 Around the World Storytime @ 10:30 am--On Safari: There will be stories, songs, and rhymes about going on a safari for preschool age children. For the craft, we will be making a safari collage. Teens on Tuesday @ 2:00 pm--Water Olympics: Kids can show off thier skills playing various wet and wild games and enjoy a root beer float to cool off. This program is for children in grades 5 and up. Family Night @ 6:30 pm--Juggler Dean Franzen: Watch as professional juggler Dean Franzen performs dazzling stunts and juggling feats right before your eyes. Wednesday, July 13 Afternoon Adventures @ 1:30 pm--Glitter Galaxies: Create your very own galaxy using lots of glitter and sequins during this last program of the summer. This program is for children in grades 1-4.

Sign Up For a Special Mother-Daughter Tea

The Old Capitol Doll Club of Iowa is hosting a Mother-Daughter Tea at the library. It will take place on Wednesday, July 20 at 1:30 pm in the library. Tuesday, July 5 Around the World Storytime @ 10:30 am--Traveling Animals: There will be stories, songs, and rhymes about adventurous animals for preschool age children. For the craft, we will be making animal trains. Teens on Tuesday @ 2:00 pm--European Food Fair: Kids can come and sample food from different European countries and play Travel Bingo. This program is for children in grades 5 and up. Family Night @ 6:30 pm--Family Movie Night: Join us as we watch Kung Fu Panda. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Wednesday, July 6 Afternoon Adventures @ 1:30 pm--Optical Illusions: This week we will be making a color changing optical illusion. This program is for children in grades 1-4.

The Library Will Be Closed on Monday

Just a reminder...the library will be closed on Monday to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday. We will resume regular hours on Tuesday, July 5.
