A Big Thank You to the Friends of the Library!

The Friends of the Library has recently purchased several very awesome items for the library. They bought 21 colorful (and comfortable) bean bag chairs for use in our children's and teen programs. The chairs have already been put to a lot of use during the YourSpace afterschool programs and the Early Out Movies. We hope to get a lot of use out of them in the years to come. The Friends also bought us a DVD cleaning machine so that we can keep our collection in the best shape possible. Make sure you let the person at the desk know if there is an issue with any DVDs (skipping, not playing, weird audio problems) so that we can clean it before it goes back on the shelf. Thanks again to the Friends of the Library for the wonderful gifts!

Third Grade Bingo Books Are On Display

Every year the third grade classes at Lakeview Elementary complete reading bingo sheets from October to March. The students have to read specific things in order to fill in their squares each month and get a "bingo." To make things easier for the kids (and the parents) we try to display books that fit the themes for each month in the library. You can find the third grade bingo books displayed on top of the junior nonfiction shelves. Some of the books cannot be checked out and must be read here in the library (these books will be marked with a bright sticker), but most of them are available for checkout. If you have a third grader this year, make sure to peruse that area of the library to find what you need. And as always, if you have any questions, feel free to ask at the desk.

Popular Puzzles

We have had puzzles available for checkout at the library for several years now, but there has been a recent surge in popularity for our 300 piece puzzles. They are really nice because they have bigger pieces that are easier to grip (and harder to lose) and can be put together much quicker than the 1000 piece puzzles. We have purchased quite a few of these puzzles over the last few months but we will always take puzzle donations, especially if they are the ones with the larger pieces.

Catch a Glimpse of a Hummingbird

The library has just added two bird feeders that are visible through the window in the children's area. They have only been in place for a few weeks and already we have seen many birds enjoying them. One of them is a hummingbird feeder, and it is so amazing to watch as they flit and hover around the feeder. The other is a goldfinch feeder, and they are beautiful to watch as they come and grab a few seeds to nibble on. Make sure to take a peek the next time you are at the library, whether you are a regular visitor to the children's section or not. There's a pretty good chance that you will catch at least one bird enjoying a snack.
