School has started up again and that means it is time for another Early Out Library Special!
On Thursday, October 14, we will have a special program just for 3rd and 4th graders. When school lets out at 11:30 am, we will walk with the students over to the library where they will eat their sack lunch. Then we will be making Chinese Paper Lanterns.
In order to attend, students must register at the library and have their parents fill out a permission slip. Registration is limited and the last day to sign up is Tuesday, October 12, so sign up fast!

Banned Books Week
The American Library Association's Banned Books Week starts today and goes through October 2nd. Banned Books week celebrates the universal right to read and brings attention to issues of censorship. Every year, books continue to be challenged in libraries and schools across the country for a variety of different reasons. Here at the Solon Library, we have made a display near the entrance that includes an assortment of some of the most challenged titles. There is a shelf devoted to children's books, young adult books, and adult titles.
Come to the library and see the display, grab a bookmark, and check out a banned book to take home and read.
To learn more about Banned Books Week, you can visit the official website.

Mark Your Calendars...
Guest Reviewer Zach
Title: Ranger's Apprentice 7: Erak's Ransom
Author: John Flanagan
Summary: On a mission to pay the ransom of a new ally, apprentice Will and his friends find themselves in a desert wasteland awash with enemies.
Zach Says: It was about the Skadia Oberjarl Erak getting captured and having his friends Will, Halt, Horace, and Evanlyn (Cassandra) rescue him. My favorite part was when Will got his silver oakleaf in the end and my least favorite part was when Will was stranded looking for Tug.

Turn Off That TV and Pick Up a Book
It's time once again for National TV Turnoff Week. From September 19 to September 25, families are encouraged to leave the television off and find other things to keep them busy. There are lots of options, like going to a park, going on a walk, or playing board games.
There are also plenty of things to keep you busy at the library. Why not check out a puzzle and put it together as a family. Or you could check out a puppet and put on a show. And of course, there are always plenty of books here to keep you busy all week long.
So stop in at the library to prepare for the week and see how long you can go without turning on the TV.
