Kristin Simon is Coming to Storytime

On Tuesday, July 27 at 10:30 am, we will have a special guest for storytime. Kristin Simon from the ECICOG will be here to read (and sing!) the book River Song by Steve Van Zandt. She will have cool water activities for everyone to try and even give out prizes! Kristin's program is sponsored by the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center.

Last Day of Summer Reading is Tomorrow!

Saturday, July 24, is the last day of Summer Reading! That means that it is your last chance to turn in reading logs and t-shirt sheets. Make sure to visit the library to drop off your forms for the last time!

Summer Reading Events for July 19-23

Tuesday, July 20 Splish Splash Storytime @ 10:30 am--Sharks!: There will be shark stories, songs, and rhymes for preschool age children. We will also be making our own paper bag shark to take home. Teens on Tuesday @ 2:00 pm--Teen Clean Up Day: Put on your walking shoes and jeans and help us clean up the area outside the library. Your hard work will be rewarded with lots of food and prizes. This program is for children in grades 5 and up. Family Night @ 6:30 pm--Family Movie Night: Join us for a movie at the library. Popcorn and pop will be provided. Wednesday, July 21 Afternoon Adventures @ 1:30 pm--Concrete Art: Get ready to get messy, because this week we are making garden paving stones out of concrete. This program is for children in grades 1-4.

Summer Reading Events for July 12-16

Tuesday, July 13 Splish Splash Storytime @ 10:30 am--Ocean Creatures: There will be stories, songs, and rhymes about all different kinds of ocean animals for preschool age children. We will also be making our own many-legged-octopus to take home. Teens on Tuesday @ 2:00 pm--Teen Water Olympics: Show off your skills playing water balloon volleyball, sponge dodge ball, and more wet and wild games. This program is for children in grades 5 and up. (This program will be canceled if it is raining.) Workshop @ 3:30 pm--Eulenspiegel Puppets Workshop: The talented people behind Eulenspiegel Puppets' amazing shows are giving you a chance to see how it is done! Two separate workshops will run at the same time, one to learn about puppetry and the other featuring music. This program is for ages 8 and up and registration is required. Family Night @ 6:30 pm--Eulenspiegel Puppets: Come and watch a performance of "Sal Fink, Catfish Wrangler." Watch as Sal tackles a tornado, fights a snake, and tames a bear. Expect lots of sound effects, live music, and several surprises. Wednesday, July 14 Afternoon Adventures @ 1:30 pm--Scratch Art Seahorses: We will read about ocean creatures and decorate scratch art seahorses. This program is for children in grades 1-4.

Tuesday, July 6 Splish Splash Storytime @ 10:30 am--Island Getaway: This week there will be stories, songs, and rhymes about pirates and islands for preschool age children. We will also be making our own pirate ships. Teens on Tuesday @ 2:00 pm--Message in a Bottle: Practice your best pirate voice as you make your own secret message in a bottle with invisible ink. This program is for children in grades 5 and up. Family Night @ 6:30 pm--Sarah Horgen From the Museum of Natural History: Learn all about what it was like to live in Solon during the Devonian Period, when Iowa was covered by water! Sarah will bring lots of hands on materials so everyone can really get a feel for what life was like back then. Wednesday, July 7 Afternoon Adventures @ 1:30 pm--Sand Painting: Tap into your artistic abilities as we learn how to paint with sand. This program is for children in grades 1-4.
