Tuesday Storytime With Jennifer

Rub a Dub Dub!! On Tuesday, September 29 storytime is all about bathtime! There will be stories and songs all about bathtubs, soap, and bubbles. We'll be making our very own bathtub with its own floating duck toy. Preschool storytime is geared for ages 2-5, but siblings are always welcome. Each session consists of 20-25 minutes of stories, songs, and action rhymes followed by a craft. No registration is required.

Pajama time with Miss Kelly Wednesday, September 30th at 7pm.

Put your pajamas on, grab your favorite bear, and come to the children's section of the library to relax and share stories and rhymes. This weekly program is designed for children under 7 and their families. The program will last approximately 30 minutes. It is a great way to get ready for bed (toothbrush optional)!

New Series Alert: Enola Holmes

If you are someone who loves a good mystery, historical fiction, or stories set in England, the Enola Holmes series by Nancy Springer is for you! Enola Holmes is the famous detective Sherlock Holmes' younger sister. She is a smart, inventive girl who wants to follow in her brother's footsteps and solve mysteries. Unfortunately Sherlock and Enola's other brother Mycroft are only interested in teaching her to be a young lady so she can find a husband. The series follows Enola as she strikes out on her own, solves crimes, and tries to stay one step ahead of her brothers. Tuesday Storytime With Jennifer

Cluck! Cluck! Get ready to hear about chickens of all shapes and sizes as I tell stories about our feathered friends. I will be reading one of my all-time favorite picture books, Minerva Louise by Janet Morgan Stoeke along with other fun chicken stories. We will be making a cute little chicken basket out of a paper plate for our craft. Preschool storytime is geared for ages 2-5, but siblings are always welcome. Each session consists of 20-25 minutes of stories, songs, and action rhymes followed by a craft. No registration is required.

Read The Book, Then See The Movie

Children's books have always been a great source of ideas for movie producers, and this fall there are THREE movies coming out that are based on beloved children's classics. First up we have The Fantastic Mr. Fox based on the book by Roald Dahl. Next we have a movie based on one of my favorite picture books from when I was little, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs by Ron and Judi Barrett. And finally, a movie that is based on one of the most well-known picture books of all time Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. All of the books can be found at the library, so you can brush up on the story before you see the movie.

New Series Alert: Dive and Everest

We now have two new series in our Juvenile Fiction section by Gordon Korman. Korman is one of our more popular children's authors here at the library. He has written the hilarious Swindle and the action-packed series Island and On the Run.

If you loved his other books, now you can read his Dive trilogy which includes The Discovery, The Deep, and The Danger. The books are about four friends who go on a diving expedition and happen to stumble upon buried treasure.

The other series is Everest which includes The Contest, The Climb, and The Summit. This series follows four kids who are competing to be the youngest person ever to reach the top of Mount Everest. The contest turns into a life or death struggle with each of them striving to get to the summit first.

If you are a fan of Gordon Korman, also make sure to check out Zoobreak, the sequel to Swindle, which will be on the shelf soon!

Beginning Genealogy Workshops

Just beginning to work on your family history? Or perhaps a branch is missing from your family tree?

There are still openings for the Beginning Genealogy Workshops at the library.

The first round of workshops is scheduled at 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. on September 8th, 15th, & 22nd and the second round is scheduled at 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. on October 13th, 20th, & 27th. Join facilitator Pam Smith for these free workshops. You may join at any time and a computer is not required for the class. Please call the library to reserve your place.

"One Good Run" On Display At The Library

Our amazing volunteer Toni Russo has wowed us again with one of her spectacular displays. This month she celebrates the history of motorcycles with a unique exhibit that includes vintage pieces from several personal collections. The display is dedicated to speed enthusiast Burt Munro, who set several land speed records on motorcycles before his death in 1978. This one-of-a-kind exhibit will be at the library through October 3.

Catching Fire Comes Out Today!!

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins is the second book in The Hunger Games Trilogy, which is in our Young Adult section. The first and second books in the trilogy have received rave reviews from critics and teens. This summer at the library, the teen book club read The Hunger Games as our first book and we had a great time discussing it. It was by far the favorite of the books we talked about, and all of the book club members were dying to get their hands on its sequel. Catching Fire continues right where The Hunger Games left off and is just as exciting and nail-biting as the first book. If you are anxious to read Catching Fire, or need to start at the beginning with The Hunger Games, come to the library and pick up a copy today!
